Obituary

Albert Gregory Apigian, age 80, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering faith.

He was the devoted husband of the late Martha for 35 wonderful years. Loving father of Sarah (Tina), Marijo (J.R.) Thomas, Laura (Douglas) Bennett, and the late Pegi (Jim) Branum and Christopher Brown. Cherished grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather of many. Dear brother of Christine (William) Eldred and the late Ardo (Charlene) Apigian

He was a man who never entered a room quietly—his presence was bold, his laughter contagious, and his kindness immeasurable. He had an uncanny ability to make everyone feel seen and valued, always making time for a conversation, sharing a joke, or offering a listening ear. His love for life was evident in everything he did, and he made sure those around him felt like they truly mattered.

For over 30 years, he worked as a dedicated and kindhearted cab driver for Lorraine Cab. His most memorable fare was the one he never collected—when he picked up Martha on the side of the road, and from that moment, they were inseparable. The running joke throughout their marriage was that she still owed him $136.50, but in truth, their love was priceless.

He was a devoted father, always present for his children school events,  family picnics, and everyday moments that mattered most. As a young man, he caddied for Arnold Palmer. He enjoyed playing cards, especially rummy and pinochle with Martha, and took great delight in the challenge of trying to outsmart the casino—he loved the intellectual game of trying to beat the odds. A true lover of good food, he never turned down a great meal—especially if it involved bread—and found joy in sharing laughs around the dinner table with family and friends.

A longtime member of Good Hope Lutheran Church, his faith was at the core of who he was. He was generous in all ways, living the love of Jesus in both word and action. He built lifelong friendships within his church community and cherished the support and fellowship he found there. In his final days, he remained at peace, his faith unwavering, knowing he would soon be reunited with Martha and embraced by his Savior.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who supported them during this time. Whether through a meal, a visit, a prayer, or a kind message, your love and care have been deeply appreciated.

Visitation will be held on Monday from 2 PM – 7 PM at John N. Santeiu Funeral Home.
Al will lie in state on Tuesday at 10 AM, until the 11 AM Funeral Service at Good Hope Lutheran Church in Garden City.
