Age 80

Beloved wife of Jerry for 54 years. Loving mom of Kristin (Todd) Thomas and Paul. Cherished Nana of Austin and Mikala. Anita passed in her sleep at home in Garden City. She fought a valiant, 7-year battle with Lewy Body Dementia/Parkinson's having her devoted husband by her side.

Anita was 1 of 10 children born to August & Carmen Contreras. She was raised in Detroit and graduated from Cody High School. She was a vibrant, positive force of energy with everything she did, from her Executive Assistant role at Ford Motor Company (where she met Jerry) to working in the cash office at Lord & Taylor. Anita was passionate about health and exercise and spent years power-walking (to win!) at Westland Mall.

She faithfully served the Lord and spent most of her years singing loudly in her soprano voice at Curtis Gospel Chapel in Detroit.

Anita loved her role as a mother and devoted her time to taking her kids to all of their practices, games and activities, as well as baking her world-famous, "big" chocolate chip cookies. She especially loved being Nana Nita most of all.

Dear sister of Mary Carpenter, Tom (Lila) Contreras, Mario (Geraldine) Contreras, Kathy (Mike) Adams, Ron (Lucy) Contreras, Lynn (Ed Updyke) Contreras, Catalina (Joe) Germaine, and the late Nora Schuster, Helen Wisniewski, and Fran Hartley. Sister-in-law of Jack Hartley, Joe (Lorie) Donaldson, Elaine Mickelson, Cathy Donaldson, Karen Donaldson, Patty Donaldson, Cathy Donaldson; and the late Glenn, Bill, Bob and Dan Donaldson. She was very dearly loved and will be deeply missed.

Visitation Sunday 2pm – 7pm. Private Funeral Service will be held at the John N. Santeiu & Son Funeral Home, 1139 Inkster Rd., Garden City (Between Ford Rd. and Cherry Hill).
