Anna Cotter, 87, of Inkster, Michigan, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2016, following a brief illness.
Anna was born in Detroit to Frank and Anne Trappel on April 8, 1929. She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas Maurice Cotter Jr. for 52 years. And the dear mother of Thomas, Kathleen, Colleen (Robert) Dansereau, Kevin (deceased), Mark (Lynn), Maureen (Bill) Corson, and Brian (Jocelyn). Anna was grandmother to Thomas and Michael Cotter, Matthew and Michael Dansereau, Mark and Melanie Cotter, Christopher Cotter, and Nathan, Brittany, Nicholas, Isabelle, and Keira Cotter. And great-grandmother to Thomas, Brendan, Ian Cotter and Mackenzie Carroll.
Anna was a life-long resident of the Detroit area, having taken one trip to her parents' homeland of Germany when she was a child. She attended school at Immaculata Girls High School, (graduated 1947), Marquette University, and nursing school in Detroit.
While raising her seven children, and continuing after, Anna was always involved in community activities. She was a Girl Scout leader, Inkster Parks and Recreation Commissioner, Neighborhood Watch member, a member of the St. Norbert Altar Sodality, and was on the Election Board for the City of Inkster. Anna also is retired from the United States Census Bureau. In her later years Anna enjoyed reading and working jigsaw puzzles, and in good weather could often be seen sitting on her front porch watching neighborhood children play and friendly dogs being walked.
Visitation is Wednesday, May 4, 2-8pm with a 7 pm Rosary at the John N. Santeiu & Son Funeral Home, 1139 Inkster Rd., Garden City (Between Ford Rd. and Cherry Hill). In state Thursday, May 5, 9:30am followed by the 10am Funeral Service at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 31530 Beechwood (at Merriman Road, 2 blocks north of Ford Rd.).
