Anthony John Schillaci
Anthony John “Tony” Schillaci passed away peacefully on June 6, 2026. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the beloved son of the late Augustine and June (Lowther) Schillaci.
A Devoted Family Man
Tony was the devoted and loving husband of Kathleen “Kathy” (Regan) Schillaci, with whom he shared a beautiful marriage of 59 years; their love for each other was truly unmatched. He was an incredibly proud father and grandfather who could rarely resist an opportunity to brag about his family. Known affectionately as “Papa” by his grandchildren, Tony was widely recognized as a funny, happy, and vibrant guy—with just the right touch of occasional grumpiness to keep everyone grounded. He always had a joke or a sharp anecdote ready to share, and the seat next to his was the most coveted spot at every family gathering and holiday celebration.
Faith and Principle
A man of deep faith and unshakeable principles, Tony was a devout Catholic who quietly led by example. He served his faith community for many years as a dedicated usher at Thomas the Apostle Parish and was a loyal, active member of the Knights of Columbus, embodying their core pillars of charity, unity, and fraternity.
Service to His Country
A steadfast patriot, Tony proudly served his country during the Vietnam War era as a Military Police (MP) officer in the United States Army. Fittingly for a man of his patriotic spirit, he passed away on June 6, a date historically marked as D-Day. During his enlistment, he was stationed at the prestigious Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., where his high-profile security assignments included guarding the Vice President of the United States. He served with honor and distinction, earning the deep respect of his fellow soldiers and decorations reflecting his dedicated service to the nation.
A Passion for Sports
Tony was an avid sportsman who loved both playing and watching sports throughout his life. He was a phenomenal bowler who achieved the rare and impressive feat of rolling several perfect 300 games. He was equally competitive on the golf course; just last year, Tony and his golf partner beat the odds to win their league championship despite being the oldest pair in the league. Above all, his absolute favorite sports to watch were the ones involving his family, and he never missed a chance to enjoy watching his grandkids at their hockey games and dance performances.
Family Legacy
Tony is survived by his beloved wife, Kathy; his children, Anthony “TJ” Schillaci (partner Jen Taylor) and Jackie Janda (husband Tom Janda); and his three adored grandchildren, Kali Schillaci, Ethan “EJ” Janda, and Elise Janda. He also leaves behind his dear siblings, Josephine Schillaci and Jack Schillaci.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his siblings, Arta Horvath, Roger Nickles, and Betty Battaglia. His legacy of laughter, faith, and devotion will live on vividly in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who knew him.
