In Loving Memory of Archie Hewett

"Family First" was more than a tattoo—it was how he lived every day.

Archie Hewett—known as "Arch" to his friends and "Dad" to those who loved him most—passed away on April 11th, 2025. He was the kind of man whose legacy is written not just in years, but in the memories he left behind and the values he instilled in those around him.

A devoted family man and tireless worker, Archie built a life rooted in love, loyalty, and the quiet strength of showing up every day for the people who mattered most. He lived by the words "Family First," and it showed in everything he did—from the sacrifices he made to the time he spent with loved ones, especially in the outdoors he cherished so much.

He found peace on the water, joy in the woods, and a special kind of magic at the family cabin up north. Some of our most treasured memories are of quiet mornings with him out on the boat—coffee in hand, lines in the water, and that familiar sense of calm that only he could bring. He loved watching his grandchildren play on the beach by the cabin, their laughter carried on the lake breeze, just as his own joy radiated from his smile.

Archie also had a gift for bringing people together around a table. He was always the cook—generous with his time and his talent—preparing home-cooked holiday meals not just for family, but for anyone who needed a place to feel welcome. His kitchen was a haven, and his meals were made with the same care and love he poured into everything else in his life.

He was a man of many passions. Archie was a skilled rider, who found freedom and joy on the open road. He loved riding his beloved Harley, feeling the freedom of the open road, always with the spirit of adventure at his side. And no matter where he went, he always came back to Louise Street—the only neighborhood he ever called home. It was more than just an address; it was part of who he was. From the front porch he loved to sit on, keeping watch over the block, he became affectionately known as "The Mayor of Louise Street." He knew everyone, and everyone knew him.

And oh, how he made us laugh. Archie was a natural jokester with a quick wit and a big heart. He had a way of lighting up every room he walked into—whether with a one-liner, a playful tease, or just that mischievous grin that meant something funny was coming. He made people feel welcome by making them laugh, and his humor lives on in the stories we tell and the joy he brought to so many.

Sports were a lifelong love. Archie played baseball and football at Livonia Franklin High School, where his competitive spirit and team-first attitude began to shine. He passed those values on to his children, teaching us not only athleticism, but integrity, sportsmanship, and heart. He continued that legacy as a dedicated coach—24 years with Devon Air Woods softball and many proud seasons with Livonia Blue Jays football. He was more than a coach—he was a mentor, a motivator, and a steady presence who believed in every kid who stepped onto the field.

As we grew, Archie remained a guiding hand in our lives—helping us navigate the ups and downs of adulthood with his steady wisdom, unwavering support, and quiet strength. When we became parents ourselves, he was there again—this time as a proud grandfather, helping us raise our own children with the same love, patience, and values he had shown us. His influence shaped us not just as his children, but as the parents we strive to be.

Losing him has left a hole in our hearts that can never truly be filled. But in our grief, we also feel the weight and the warmth of his legacy—a legacy built on love, laughter, loyalty, and care. We will honor him by living the way he taught us: showing up for the people we love, making time for laughter, passing down his stories, and yes—cooking his favorite meals, just the way he did. Through the recipes he perfected, the lessons he lived, and the love he gave, we will carry him with us, always.

He was loved. He is missed. And he will never be forgotten.

Beloved husband of Martha "Marty" for 42 wonderful years.  Devoted father of Stacy (Mel) Meredith, Anne Coleman, Ashley (Ron) Hickel, and Archie III.  Proud grandpa of Charles, Lance, Brianne, Jesse, Oliver, Ardell, Gage, and Declan.  Brother of Hall (Diane), Dean (Martha), and the late Georgina Ducat.  He will be deeply missed and loved by nieces, nephews, and many friends.
