Audrey M. Kissel. Age 92. Passed away May 9, 2013. Beloved wife of the late Joseph Nicholas Kissel. Loving mother of Florence E. Salata. Dearest mother-in-law of Michael J. Salata. Proud grandma of Michael P. (Michelle) Salata and Susan G. Andersen. Great grandma of Audrey, Andrew and Luke Salata. Dearest sister-in-law of Sylvia Conway, John Kissel, Marion Dziedzic and Rosalind Widmeyer.

Audrey was born January 30, 1921, and grew up on a farm, in Wayne, Michigan, during the depression.At the age of sixteen, she went to work at her father's grocery store, performing various chores, such as cleaning the store and stocking shelves.She later began cutting meat and was one of three butchers at the store.After the store was sold, she worked as a butcher at various other stores.She married at age 18, and contracted polio at nineteen, and was paralyzed from the neck down.Eventually, with great determination, she began to walk again and regain her strength.She had one daughter, Florence, son-in-law, Mike, two grandchildren, Michael and Susan, and three great-grandchildren, Audrey, Andrew, and Luke.She loved them all dearly.
In 1962, she married Joseph Kissel, known as Nick to the family.Audrey was the sister-in-law to Sylvia, John, and Marion.Audrey and Nick loved to dance, and were great swing dancers, winning many awards.After she retired, she spent a great deal of time growing flowers in her yard.Her home and yard were her pride and joy.Audrey and Nick were married forty seven years, when Nick passed away of lung cancer in 2009.Audrey resided at Tendercare of Taylor for the last four years of her life.
There will be a Memorial Gathering Thursday, October 10thfrom 4:00 p.m. until the time of the Memorial Service at 5:00 p.m. at Hackett-Metcalf Funeral Home.
