Barbara Ann Navoy (née Mouhot), 93, of Garden City, Mich., peacefully went to be with her Lord on Friday, August 14, 2026.
Barb was born on February 18, 1933, in Detroit, the seventh of ten children born to the late Mary Ann and James Mouhot. She graduated from Detroit’s Cooley High School in 1951 and remained life-long friends with many of the people with whom she graduated. Barb attended Wayne State University until she met the man of her dreams, Robert Navoy.
Barb and Bob were united in marriage on May 15, 1954. Barb remained a full-time wife and mother until 1972 when she began her career as a pre-school teacher. She continued to work with children until she retired. She lost her beloved Bob in 1997 after nearly 43 years of marriage. In her retirement, she devoted herself as a volunteer to several organizations, the most important of which was the Alzheimer’s Association, in honor of her late husband.
Barb was an avid reader, loved to travel and spend time with her family and friends. She had a ready sense of humor, curious mind and sweet tooth. She was a member of her local writers’ club for several years, authoring her autobiography under the guidance of the supportive group. Her grandchildren affectionately nicknamed her Moesie. In her later years, she was known by most friends and family by this name.
She is survived by her children, Robert Navoy, Jr. (Pauline), Kathryn Buddenborg (Dennis) and Sharon Bumhoffer (Alan); her grandchildren, Jennifer, Elizabeth, Matthew, Sarah, David and Kate; great-grandchildren, Austin, Connor, Sawyer, Vaniah, Cameron, Evan, Marisol, Vicente and Clara; and her siblings Shirley Onyskin and William Mouhot.
A celebration of life will be held at John N. Santeiu & Son Funeral Home, 1139 N. Inkster Road, Garden City on Saturday, August 22. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:30p.m., followed by a Memorial Service from 1:30 to 2:30p.m. A luncheon will be held at 3:00p.m. at Cariera's Cucina Italiana in Dearborn Heights.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association Greater Michigan Chapter.
