Obituary

Age 84.

Betty L. Abraham was born July 13, 1937 in Gastonia, North Carolina. She died, surrounded by her loving family, at Angela Hospice in Livonia. She was raised by her grandmother, Ella Clark Ferguson. She married George M. Evsich and moved to Michigan in 1956 and later to Livonia in 1962. She is survived by her four children, Kathy Evsich, of Collingswood, NJ, and Ft. Lauderdale, FL; Debbie Simmons, and her husband, Stan, of Livonia, MI; Curtis Evsich Reed, and his partner, Don, of West Palm Beach, FL, and Friendship, ME, and Ned Evsich and his wife, Tede, of Mt. Pleasant, SC.  She is also survived by her five grandchildren, Clayton, Ryan, Amanda, Bradley, and Sarah.

The love of her life was George Abraham whom she married after her first marriage. They were together from 1981 to 1988. She is also survived by George's brother, Mark Abraham and his wife, Letty, both of whom she adored. An infant son, William D. Evsich (Billy) died before two months of age. She was also predeceased by her lifelong friend, Bernie Skully. She is also survived by her nephew, Carl Casale and his wife Eileen and her nieces, Katie Cooper, and Cynthia Casale.

Although she lived in Livonia for most of her adult life, Betty retained much of her Southern heritage. She was an independent and self-driven person who single handedly raised her four young children. She worked numerous jobs during her life to provide for them. In the past, Betty has owned a Pizza Parlor, was both a beautician and eventually became a teacher at the Beauty College and worked at the Detroit, Northville, and Hazel Park Racetracks.

She retired at age 70 in 2007 and the family threw her a wonderful Casino party at Corsi's in Livonia. She always loved gambling, and would sneak off to the casino, or racetrack, whenever she found time. She remained active in the life of her children and grandchildren to the end. A family highlight was a cruise on the Royal Caribbean Liberty of the Seas on which she took the entire family for a wonderful holiday in 2014.  Her only request was that everyone be present each evening at dinner where she sat beaming with pride at the head of the table.

Betty was a realist and wanted to have her party while she was still alive. During her treatments she became close to the dedicated healthcare workers who helped her with her medical issues.  They in turn labeled her a "firecracker" for her personality and appreciated her loving and generous heart.  The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to all these dedicated healthcare workers.

The Family invites you to celebrate her life on Saturday, April 9, 2022, 11:00 am, at John N. Santeiu Funeral Home, 1139 Inkster Rd, Garden City, MI, cemetery service immediately following the celebration of life.  Viewing for friends on Friday, April 8, from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Santeiu Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Angela Hospice Home Care, 14100 Newburgh Rd, Livonia, MI 48154.
