Carl William Goodreau, age 91, passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Born at home on March 10, 1932, in L'Anse, Michigan, son of Homer and Grace (Gallano) Goodreau. He married the love of his life, Joan Vandekerckhove, at St. Philomena Church in Detroit on February 19,1955, and were married for 68 loving years.
He is survived by his wife, Joan; children, Buck (Claudia), Steven, Ronald, Gail (Tim) Shoff, James, Laura Fragoso and Diane.Grandfather and Great-Grandfather to numerous children, Uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.
Carl was preceded in death by his mother and father, siblings, Charles, Donald, Laura SR Grace Albert, Eileen LaJoye, Lillian Destrampe, Robert, Rosemary Patierno, Homer, Virgina Bosworth, Dolores Little, Bernice Doyle, Gale, Albert, and Delmer; mother-in-law Anna Connolly and fathers-in-law William Vandekerckhove and Joseph Connolly; his loving 4th oldest son, Brian, and beautiful daughter-in-law Lenell.
Carl graduated from L'Anse High School where he participated and lettered in baseball, basketball, and football.Carl was the quarterback on the football team where he still holds the record for most touchdown passes in one game.Carl sailed on the Great Lakes and then worked at Chrysler Corporation in Detroit.He served in the Army for 2 years and returned to work for Chrysler until his retirement in 1987.
Carl loved hunting and fishing.In his later years he enjoyed playing golf and had 4 hole-in-ones.Carl and Joan golfed in a mixed golf league for over 34 years where they still maintain special friendships with the other golfers.
Carl was a proud member of the American Legion Post 409 and the Knights of Columbus Father Saylor #3774.
When remembering Carl, he would want you to raise a glass, share a story, laugh, and always have a full heart when you celebrate his life.
Visitation will be on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at Hackett-Metcalf Funeral Home from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Prayers from the American Legion will begin at 5:45 p.m., followed by a Rosary lead by the Knights of Columbus at 6:00 p.m.Instate 11:30 a.m. at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church on Friday, October 27, 2023, until the time of Mass at 12:00 Noon.
