Passed away peacefully on December 5, 2025, in Littleton, Colorado, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on June 28, 1956, in Detroit, Michigan, Cheryl was the daughter of Ruth and Wilbur Hoover and one of five children.
Cheryl began her career with the Michigan State Police just two weeks after graduating from high school. She proudly served her community for 26 years, building a respected and meaningful career. Her service came to an unexpected close when she was diagnosed with a rare disease that caused the loss of her eyesight. Despite this life-altering challenge, Cheryl remained resilient, optimistic, and committed to living life fully.
In 1997, Cheryl married her beloved husband, Gary Rasmussen. Although Cheryl and Gary did not have children due to her eyesight condition, they shared a deep love for their dogs, Shadow, Bonnie, and Rocky, who were cherished members of their family. Gary passed away in 2007 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Following her retirement from the Michigan State Police, Cheryl became actively involved in the Red Hat Society and the Kiwanis Club, where she formed lasting friendships and continued her passion for helping others. In 2020, she moved to Colorado with her brother Bob, embracing a new chapter of life. Cheryl became involved with the Colorado Center for the Blind, where she learned to navigate independently using her cane and gained confidence in moving through her community.
Cheryl is survived by her sister Linda Stuedemann, brother Jim Hoover, and sister Wendy King. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Gary Rasmussen, her parents Ruth and Wilbur Hoover, and her brother Robert "Bob" Hoover.
