August 8, 1963 – November 15, 2017
He was born in Garden City, Michigan August 8th, 1963. The son of Daniel and Jeanne (Klembecki) Johnson. He was a 1981 graduate of Dundee Community High School. He was the catcher on the 1981 class C baseball state championship team.
CJ moved to Poway California with his family in August of 1981. He held a couple various jobs including working for Poway Unified School District. He was accepted into the first ever San Diego County Corrections Academy in 1988 and then into the San Diego County Sheriff's Academy in 1992. He retired from formal duty in June 2016, but continued to work part-time. The last 18 years of his career was dedicated to working in the juvenile division, which was his passion. He was awarded many honors throughout his career. He played a key role in the Chelsea King case which he held forever dear to his heart.
He enjoyed playing many sports, softball, Golf, and racquetball just to name a few. He loved taking rides on his Harley, volunteering for many organizations including best buddies, star pal, shop with a cop, Camp Mataguay, every 15 minutes program, and many more. But most of all he loved attending any function or sporting event his children were in. He was making plans and looking forward to having a vacation Home back east in Michigan, where his roots were first planted to be closer to his family, with the love of his life Sherri Dunlap.
CJ is survived by his forever love Sherri Dunlap of Poway; his loving children Shane Christopher (McKenna Stine) and Chloe Jean Johnson; and his favorite pet Harley. Dear brother of Tim (Sue) Johnson, Patricia Jean (Brian) Shaffner and the late Terry, William and Daniel. Brother-in-law of Beth Ann Johnson, Terri Sue Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents Dan and Jeanne and his maternal and paternal grandparent and many uncles. Also survived by his nieces and nephews; Michael Johnson, Holly Johnson, Terry (Brittany) Johnson, Abby Johnson, Kati Johnson, Savannah Shaffner, Macy Shaffner, and great niece Alyssa Johnson. Aunt Patricia (Richard) Wagner and Devlin family.
He was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by many life brothers and sisters in friendship who were dear to him, like family.
Visitation Saturday 9 am followed by the 11:30am Funeral Service at the John N. Santeiu & Son Fuenral Home. Officiating will be Chelsea MacAdams. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Chris's favorite organizations, Friends of Best Buddies at PO box 1254 Poway, CA 92074 or Chelsea's Light Foundation at chelseaslight.org.
Heaven holds a special place for those who do the deed.
