IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Daniel C.
O'Neill, Sr.
February 21, 1934 – August 20, 2024
Age 90
Clarke met his future wife, Fran Starks, while they were third graders at St Patrick's School on Parsons in Detroit. He went on to attend Salesian High School and was co-captain of his high school football team. He proudly enlisted and served in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean War. He married that girl he met back in third grade, and together they had a house built in Dearborn Heights and had a family. While helping raise those children, he used the GI bill to earn his bachelors degree in finance from the University of Detroit, where his father had also attended. He was a firm believer in education and after his children were raised, went back to school and earned two Master's degrees (Communications and Gerontology) from Wayne State University.
He was the dad who played catch with his children after work, taught us to ride bikes, coached grade school sports at St. Mels, was a church usher, and a Bishop Borgess High School dad's club member. He was the dad who played Scrabble with his children in the basement on sweltering summer evenings in the pre-airconditioning era. He was the fastest typist I have ever seen and an early computer user. After he retired from the communications department at Wayne County Mental Health, he had more time to play on his computer, photograph everything in sight, wear loud shirts, garden, frequent their favorite restaurants, teach video skills to Dearborn Heights seniors, drive his wife insane, watch birds, co-write an O'Neill newsletter with and about his cousins, continue to support the Amvets (he was a one time state commander), meet up with his cousins on a monthly basis, holler at the television for various and sundry issues, tell his children and grandchildren he was proud of them...
He loved, was loved, and will be dearly missed.
Beloved husband of the late Fran. Dear father of Mary Catherine (Kurt) Haller, Pattie (Cathy), Jim (Melinda Ann), and the late Daniel C. Jr.
Loving grandfather of Megan, Matt (Erin), Alex (Kyle), Griffin, Sydney, Danielle, Bradley (Sarina), Makinley, Presley, and Easton. Great grandfather of Joseph, Lorraine, Madison and Eisley. Brother of the late Arthur W. 'Pat' O'Shea .
