David passed away peacefully at home surrounded by friends and family. He was born in Toledo, Ohio on December 14, 1942, to Alice (Lamb) McElroy and was the only grandchild of Chester and Nina Lamb, also of Toledo.
During high school, David and his mother moved to St Petersburg, Florida where he would graduate from St Petersburg High School. In 1960 David enlisted and spent 4 years on ship as a sailor in the United States Navy.
After his discharge from the Navy, David first joined the Detroit Fire Department and then in 1970 was hired by the City of Dearborn Heights thus beginning a decades long career. David retired from the Dearborn Heights Fire Department in 2004 after obtaining the rank of Deputy Chief. David would spend the next several years working as a contractor for the State of Michigan, the City of Detroit, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
Post Retirement David enjoyed traveling with his wife Rhonda, earning his Amateur Ham Radio License (KD8AMR), and cheering for his beloved University of Michigan Wolverines.
David is survived by his wife Rhonda (Pullen), his daughters Richelle McElroy and Megan (William) Doherty. Preceded in death by his most favorite dog, Mitzi.
Per David's request there will be no funeral services.
