David A. Plawecki, age 65, August 4, 2013. Beloved husband of Linda. Loving father of Brent (Nicole) and Kirk (Trista). Dear grandfather of Avery and Kendall. Brother of Edward, Richard and Andrea. Son of the late Edward and Lillian. Dave was a dedicated public servant that served as an influential State Senator (1970-1982) and Senate majority floor leader, creating legislation used as a model across the country such as: Open Meetings Act, Bullard-Plawecki Employee Right to Know Act, and Freedom of Information Act. He was the youngest State Senator elected in Michigan history at the age of 22. Later in his career, he served as Deputy Director of the Department of Labor and Economic Growth. As Deputy Director, his accomplishments included creation of legislation to combat business tax evasion related to the State Unemployment Tax Act, establishing a free employer/claimant advocacy program that provides assistance in appealing unemployment compensation claims, and initiation of far reaching efforts to deal with alien worker indentured servant schemes & Unemployment Insurance fraud. Visitation Wednesday 3-8pm at the John N. Santeiu & Son, Funeral Home, 1139 Inkster Rd. (between Ford Rd. and Cherry Hill. In State Thursday 9am until a 9:30am Mass at Church of the Divine Child, 1055 N. Silvery Lane at Wilson in Dearborn.
