Age 89
Beloved wife of the late Theodore for 66 years. Loving mother of Christina (Gregory) Viscomi and Thomas (Steve Foreman). Grandmother of Maria and Adriana Viscomi. Sister of the late Viola (Joseph) Goodsir and Evangeline Vergos. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Demetra was a lifelong Detroiter, a graduate of Mackenzie High School and the Detroit Business Institute. She was a former executive secretary at the Chrysler Corporation. Along with her husband, she was very active in Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church and organized and supported many events for that community for over fifty years. In addition to raising a family and being involved in her church she devoted years of service to many philanthropic organizations including: American Lung, the Salavation Army, the Detroit Institute of Arts, and various women's auxiliary masonic organizations. She was a proud member of P.E.O. and helped raise funds for their educational programs. She and her husband were elected to the Board of Trustees for the Michigan Opera Theater and were benefactors to the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.
Visitation Wednesday 3-8pm with a 7pm Trisagion at the John N. Santeiu & Son Funeral Home, 1139 N. Inkster Rd. Garden City (Between Ford Rd. & Cherry Hill). In state Thursday 10am followed by the 11am Funeral Service at Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 36375 Joy Rd., (east of Newburgh).
