Celebrating Diane Raymond
Diane was born on October 27, 1933 to Ruth (nee: Baker) and John Cragg in Cleveland, Ohio. Diane's parents divorced in 1935. Diane and her mom lived in Cleveland until the war broke out in December 1941. In January of 1942, Diane's aunt invited them to move to Detroit and they did so. Diane's mom was employed at the Michigan Central Train Depot.
Diane attended St. Vincent's School until her graduation in 1951. Following her graduation from high school, Diane day-hopped to Marygrove College. She graduated from Marygrove with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1955.
Diane worked part-time in the business office at the old Providence Hospital from 1951-1957. Diane was hired as a school teacher at Maybury Elementary School in southwest Detroit. She worked at Maybury until her retirement in June 1986. Diane traveled extensively throughout Europe, the Orient, Hawaii, Alaska, the continental United States, and the Holy Land.
On August 05, 1977, Diane married Edward Raymond at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dearborn. Ed and Diane were involved in the O'Kelley Council of the Knights of Columbus and various Veterans groups. Diane served as the Vice President of the Colleens and Recording Secretary of the L.O.T.A. (Ladies of the Auxiliary). She also served as historian for both of these groups. Diane served as treasurer of the American Legion Auxiliary. Diane also taught catechism classes at Priest and St. Clement's Schools. She was a lector and Eucharistic minister at her parish, St. Albert the Great Catholic Church for many years.
Diane's mom was professed into the Third order at St. Bonaventure in the 50's. Diane and her mom attended daily Mass and prayed the Rosary together. In 1999, Diane joined the Secular Franciscans to deepen her relationship with God and to follow the wonderful example set by her mom. She was professed into the St. Bonaventure Secular Franciscan Fraternity at St. Bonaventure Monastery in November 2001.
Diane's hobbies included playing pinochle and board games. Diane moved to Henry Ford Village in 2014 where she and her cat "Whiskers" livedfor many years.
Diane passed away on Wednesday, December 14, 2022. Age 89. Beloved wife of the late Edward Raymond. Also survived by her step granddaughter, Chelsey Raymond and many loving friends.
Visitation will be on Sunday, December 18, 2022 at Hackett-Metcalf Funeral Home from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. There will be a Rosary at 1:15 p.m. Instate 12:30 p.m. on Monday, December 19, 2022 at Allegria Village (formerly known as Henry Ford Village), 15101 Ford Road, Dearborn, Michigan 48126 until the time of Mass at 1:00 pm.
