Donald Richard Carey, age 79 of Westland, Michigan passed away Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at Corewell Health in Wayne, Michigan. He married his beloved wife Doreen June Carey (Jablecki) on March 27, 1965 and was happily married for 53 years until her death on June 28, 2018.
Don grew up in Detroit and attended St. Vincent Catholic School and was an Alter boy. He was a proud man that loved his family. Everything in his life revolved around what his family was doing and what they needed. When his children were younger, he was extremely involved in Dad's Athletic Club and coached them in softball. In his younger years, he golfed, bowled and did an occasional hunting trip with longtime friends. He retired from BASF Corporation and Red Spot after many years in the Chemical Manufacturing Industry.
Along with his parents and wife, Don was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Lisa Ann Carey, two brother's Daniel & Henry and a sister-in-law Loretta Carey.
Don was a loving and caring father to Michelle (John) Fulton, Kathleen (Tim) Sloan, Donald (Kim) Carey, Kevin (Christina Stark) Carey and Colleen (Marc) Williams. He was also a fantastic Papa to Ryan Sloan, Joshua (Adrian) Farmer, Jessica (Richard) Hardyniec, Danielle (Blake) Mostowy, Kendra (Matthew) Napieralski, Samantha (Edward Meiers) Fulton, Madison Williams, Morgan Williams, Marc Williams Jr., and Great-Papa to Kennedy Hardyniec, Henry Napieralski, RJ Hardyniec, Liam Farmer, Jack Napieralski and soon to be Baby Mostowy. He was big brother to Sandra (Mike) Zylla, Ronald (Loretta) Carey, Bonnie (Frank) Rybinski and Michael (Julia) Carey and loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.
As a last act of kindness and generosity, which he was known for his whole life, Don donated to those in need through Gift of Life. The family asks in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to Gift of Life and the American Heart Association.
Don will be missed by all that knew him. He was a great man who always put others first and he will never be forgotten.
