Obituary

Age 95

Dot passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and dedication to her family. She was the beloved wife of the late Raymond J. Fortier and a devoted mother to her children: Helene (Tom) Billock, Linda (James) Vipond, Raymond (Kathleen) Fortier, Janice (Neal) McMichael , and the late Robert Fortier (2024). Dorothy was a proud grandmother to Kristene (Erik) Topinka, Jennifer Vipond, Raymond (JayAnn) Vipond, Craig (Mary) McMichael, Jeffrey (Lauren) McMichael, Beth (Mark) Demmer, Matthew (Molly) Fortier, Tom (Jocelyn) Billock, and Heather (Sean) McCarthy. She was also a cherished great-grandmother to Mya and Avery Topinka; Morgan and Miles Vipond; Clover McMichael; Robert, Connor, and Padraig McMichael; Brandon, Lauren, and Jack Demmer; and Mason, Connor, and Cody Fortier.

Dorothy was born on July 26, 1929, in Detroit, Michigan, to Frank and Althea Smith. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother Frank Smith, and her sister Vesta McFadden. She married Raymond Fortier in November 1947, and together they raised five children until Raymond's untimely passing on May 5, 1965.

Despite the challenges of widowhood, Dorothy exhibited extraordinary strength and resilience, dedicating herself to raising her children. She worked for many years with Dearborn Heights District #7 Schools, serving as a lunchroom supervisor and a bus aide for children with disabilities. Additionally, she worked at the Dearborn Theatre during its prime and was a nurturing caretaker for her grandchildren, nephews, and great-grandchildren over the years.

Dorothy will be remembered for her unwavering determination, tireless work ethic, and ability to face life's challenges with courage and grace. Her impact on her family and community will never be forgotten. Rest in Peace Dot. You may be gone, but you will never be forgotten.
