Obituary

Doug, Glenn, Butch or Butchie as some of his siblings, cousins and Grandparents called him, and or "Uncle Geezy" and "Ankle Doug" was Harry D. and Opal F. Brady's firstborn child born April 13, 1940. He was preceded in death by both of his parents and his grandparents, eight of his younger siblings Alma Kahl, Michael Brady, Georgia Kwolek (Kenneth), William Brady,  his sofa buddy and best friend Ronald Brady, Shelly Harvey, Gary Brady and his loyal companion Marley, (Shelly's beloved pitbull). Doug is survived by his sweet 98 year old Aunt Ruby Ulmer, endearing sisters Bonnie Clay (Daryl), Mary Lou Muegge and Sandra Kendall (Robert) and 18 adored nieces and nephews, 13 great-nieces and great-nephews, besides many esteemed cousins and friends near and far.

Doug joined the Marine Corp when he was 17 years old.  After doing two tours of duty in Vietnam he declared "Unless they were going to guarantee that I would not be sent back to Vietnam - I'd would only re-enlist if they stationed me in my backyard" - he completed 10 years of duty.  After the service - Doug had been employed by Star Tool and Die following in his father's career as a Journeyman Tool & Die Maker.  Later, he received a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and was employed by Ford Motor Company for 20+/- years as a Design Engineer where he retired from in 2008.

His presence and smile was warm and infectious. The holidays, graduations, weddings, family get-togethers and his numerous trips/vacations (Arizona, Colorado, West Virginia, Virginia, Salvo, NC - "Cracken", Hatteras, NC -"Fireball", Kansas City, KC) he cherished with his siblings and or nieces and nephews (who he loved like his own and that admiration went both ways) were mutually treasured memories for family and friends included.

Doug's many hobbies and skills included skiing, scuba diving, sailing, bicycling, camping, photography and motorcycling.  He was an avid reader and thoroughly enjoyed research on numerous topics of interest. He savored "shooting the bull" on sports, politics and world affairs.  Doug was a wonderful giant of a man with a colossal heart.  If any of his siblings or their kids "liked", "wanted" or "needed" anything he was only too happy to be a silent gifter.  Seeing others joy or needs satisfied was his internal reward.  He was also the caregiver, up until his death, of his dear 98 year old aunt.  We recently learned Doug was an philanthropist in his own right, donating to several non-profit organizations down through the years but never blowing his own horn.

We will all carry our fond stories about Doug, Glenn, Butch, Butchie, Uncle Glenn, "Uncle Geezy" or "Ankle Doug" that will keep his memory alive with the hope of seeing him again in the resurrection, here on earth, as promised in God's word (Isaiah 26:19, Revelation 21:4).  We will sorely miss our beloved, devoted and favorite nephew, big-brother, cousin, brother-in-law, uncle, Friend.

A Memorial will be held for Doug/Glenn at a later date. His family greatly appreciates your prayers, condolences and sharing your memories.
