Obituary

Edward Hugh Bovich age 86, passed peacefully, surrounded by his family, August 31, 2011. Beloved husband of 58 years to Michela "Honey" née Denaro. Loving father of Mary Hotto (Robert), Tris Caserio (Richard), Edward Bovich (Sara Wade), John Bovich (Samantha). Proud grandfather of Brendan Sheen, Joseph Hotto, Vincent and Martin Caserio, Benedetto Bovich, Bella, Ford and Siena Bovich. Dear brother of Ray (Mary) and the late Hugh, Jack and Patricia.

Ed was born on September 20, 1924 in New York City to Edward Francis and Beatrice Gilmartin. He received his A.B. in Philosophy, Saint Basil's College, Stamford, CT at age 24 and his Masters in Theology, Sacred Heart Seminary, Detroit, at age 75.

He served as ship's navigator in the US Merchant Marine and Navy during WW II. He studied and taught at Fordham University.

Ed was proud to be a Special Agent of the F.B.I., which took him from Washington D.C. to Detroit, where he met his wife, who was the Secretary to the Special Agent in Charge of the Detroit office. The Bureau then took them to Kentucky and Chicago. Declining an offer to move to Washington D.C. in a supervisory role, he left the Bureau and served as Regional Director of the National Safety Council in Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

Ed and Honey moved back to Michigan, and he became President of the Wyandotte Chamber of Commerce. He was a successful industrialist, as President/Chairman and owner of Wyandotte Cement and President of Independent Cement.

After retiring, Ed devoted himself to philanthropy and volunteerism. He was Chairman and Chair Emeritus of the Oakwood Hospital Foundation, with which he was involved for over 20 years. There, he raised substantial funds for major capital improvements. He served as chairman, trustee, and consultant for various other foundations including the National Foundation for Philanthropy, Boys Hope, The Jesuit Province of Michigan/Ohio and the Society of Former Special Agents of the F.B.I. Foundation. He also raised substantial funds for Sacred Heart Seminary, Sacred Heart Parish and the Wheaton Franciscans. Based upon his years of experience as a fundraiser, he authored, with his two sons, "The Art of Fundraising" for the American Hospital Association.

Ed served as President of the Michigan Chapter of the Society of Former Special Agents of the F.B.I. He was a member of the Centurions Club, the Phoenix Club, and the Dearborn Country Club.

He was a scrappy point guard on his college basketball team, an NCAA basketball referee, and he never missed a minute of March Madness. He loved to golf, and he literally received applause from those lucky enough to be served his legendary Caesar salad.

Proud of his Irish heritage and his New York roots, Ed will be remembered for his faith, his devotion to his family, his love of language, and his selfless service to others.

In accordance with Ed's wishes, cremation has taken place.
