Age 85
Ed passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 14, after spending most of the day with his family.
Ed is survived by the love of his life, Carol, his wife of 62 years. He is also survived by his 3 daughters, Gayle (Paul) Sherlag, Susan Fron and Andrea (Marylou Jansen) Fron, his two grandchildren, Andrea and Anthony Sherlag, his brother-in-law, Carl Weiss and many close relatives and friends. Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Anne (Duranczyk) Fron and his sister and her husband, Emily and Harold Rice.
Ed was born and raised in the Detroit area, attending Our Lady of Lourdes High School and the University of Detroit. He served in the Korean War as a member of the United States Army. He and Carol raised their family in Dearborn Heights where their daughters attended Divine Child Schools. Ed immersed himself in his daughters' interests and taught them to pursue excellence through practice and perseverance. He rarely missed one of their events. They were active members of Divine Child Parish. Ed treasured this time and developed many life long friendships.
Ed enjoyed his career at Ford Motor Company where he worked until 1988. He was instrumental in establishing the first computer operations at Ford Motor Co. World Headquarters in Dearborn, MI and managed various IT departments until his retirement.
His professional life was enriched by many deep friendships with his coworkers and peers.
After his rewarding career, Ed and Carol "retired" to St. Pete Beach, FL where he involved himself in his condominium's community government and newsletter, golf and tennis. He and Carol enjoyed a very active social life and took joy in their lives together at the St. Pete Beach Yacht and Tennis Club for 28 years. Ed leaves behind many dear friends in St. Pete Beach.
When Ed and Carol became Grandparents, their world lit up even brighter. They traveled whenever possible to participate in family gatherings, religious milestones, dance recitals or baseball games. It didn't matter the event. If invited, they came.
Ed enjoyed athletics throughout his life. He played football while a student at the University of Detroit and continued to compete in many sports. Whether it was golf, bowling, board games or shuffleboard, Ed always played with a will to win! One of his fondest memories was attending the Super Bowl in Tampa, FL with his daughter, Susan. Anyone who knew Ed Fron knew that he never lost his competitive spirit.
The Fron and Sherlag families would like to thank the many caregivers who touched our lives when we moved Ed to Atlanta, GA in April of this year. He showed tremendous courage and strength throughout his life, especially in the last four months. The caring involvement of Halcyon Hospice provided Ed and his family a peaceful and loving home in the final stages of his earthly life. Ed loved the Lord and the Blessed Virgin Mary.
