Eleanor "Ellie" Hans-Hartman, 87, of Livonia, Mich. died Sunday morning, December 7, 2014 of heart failure with her family by her side in their home in Ypsilanti, Mich. Survived by daughters Kathy Sloan, Nicki Cary; son Daniel Hans; granddaughters Tori Robinson and Megan Cary; grandsons Edsel Sloan, Dan Hans, Jon Hans, Steven Cary, and Alex Cary; great-grandchildren Lily Robinson, Levi Cary, and Adalyn Cary.
Ellie was born on a cold morning in Detroit, Mich., Sunday January 16, 1927 to Mellie and Alexander Mitchell. She grew up with brother Tom Mitchell in Hazel Park, Mich. Ellie stayed in the southeast Michigan area and worked as an executive secretary for a patent attorney. She married first husband Daniel Hans, raising two daughters, and one son in Dearborn Heights. Ellie and her family created many fond memories camping all over America with the Ford Caravan trailer club, taking many trips to the Grand Canyon, the salt flats of Utah, and Florida. Ellie and Dan retired and enjoyed many years in Inverness, Florida, before Dan passed. Ellie surpassed odds, finding love twice, and married Gene Hartman. Ellie and Gene enjoyed many wonderful years in their Florida home, with many visits from kids and grandkids. Ellie rode with Gene in his semi-truck on his trips all over the country for work. After his retirement they became world travelers, visiting Australia and the Caribbean. After Gene passed on, Ellie moved back to Michigan, settling near family in Livonia. Ellie enjoyed waking up early to play polka music for her family. She crocheted dozens of beautifully crafted afghans, cherished by family and friends for years. She enjoyed gardening, always making sure she had roses in her favorite color – yellow. Her beautiful smile, courage, and love will be missed, but never forgotten.
