Obituary

Ervin Ray Baker
July 2, 1947 – May 28, 2026

It is with profound sadness and immense love that we announce the passing of Ervin Ray Baker, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, family member, and friend.

To know Ervin was to know a man of strength, kindness, and unwavering devotion to the people he loved. He lived a life rooted in family, hard work, integrity, and compassion. Whether offering guidance, lending a helping hand, sharing a laugh, or simply being present when someone needed him, he touched countless lives in ways both big and small.

Ervin graduated Haysi High School in 1968, upon graduation he entered the US Army. Ervin proudly served his country in the United States Army as a Sergeant (E-5) Expert Marksman with the 101st Airborne division The Screaming Eagles during the Vietnam War from December 5, 1968, to December 4, 1970. Following his military service, he dedicated 30 years of service to General Motors before retiring. His commitment, work ethic, and sense of responsibility were evident in everything he did.

He found great joy in the outdoors and loved hunting, fishing, and spending time in his garden. Some of his happiest moments were spent enjoying nature, sharing stories, and creating memories with those he loved most.

He was a source of comfort and stability to his family, a man whose love was felt not through grand gestures alone, but through the everyday acts of care, sacrifice, and support that defined his life. He taught those around him the importance of perseverance, loyalty, and treating others with respect. The lessons he shared and the values he lived by will continue to guide his family for generations to come.

His greatest pride was the family he loved so deeply. On July 3, 1971, he married the love of his life, Catherine Baker, beginning a journey together that spanned nearly fifty-five years and was filled with love, dedication, and countless cherished memories.

Ervin was preceded in death by his parents, Arson and Dollie Baker and his in laws Joe Glen and Lucinda Woods and his siblings Lorena, Myrlene, Landon, Alfred Lee, and Ethel May.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Catherine Baker; his children, Carrie Ann, Kevin, and Brandon; his siblings, Reba Gay and Eddie; his grandchildren, Courtney, Katlynn, Caleb, Emma (Angel), and Jaxon, and his great-grandchildren, Melody, Ella,Mason Kayden(Angel) Greyson, Izabella, Gracie, Sister in law Patty Lockard (Dan), along with many extended family members and dear friends.

He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and cherished memories that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. While his passing leaves an immeasurable void, his spirit lives on in the stories shared, the traditions continued, and the lives he helped shape.

Though we mourn his loss, we also celebrate a life well lived and a man who made the world a better place simply by being in it. He will be remembered with love, gratitude, and deep admiration.

Forever loved, forever missed, and forever remembered.
