Florence Churilla, aged 94, passed away on April 1, 2025, at the residence of her daughter and son-in-law in Lowell, Michigan.

She met her husband, John Churilla, at Transylvania Park and married him on September 17, 1955, at Descent of the Holy Ghost. They resided in Detroit and became active members of the Descent of the Holy Ghost Romanian Orthodox Church, where Florence was already a life-long member and served as a Sunday School Teacher. Florence was deeply involved in the Ladies Auxiliary, contributing to monthly dinners, organizing events such as buncos, Halloween parties, Christmas Pageants for the Sunday School and summer picnics at Transylvania Park, and holding the position of Auxiliary President. She was a devout Orthodox Christian, wife, and mother, who enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and cross-stitching.

Florence is survived by her daughter Mona and son-in-law Rolf Pawelka. Seven nieces and nephews. Fourteen Great-nieces and nephews and nine great-great nieces and nephews.

Florence is predeceased by her husband John, son John Lawrence, brothers Theodore and Eli Csernyant, sister Ann (Anita) Blaga, sisters-in-law Mary (Micklea) and Anna (Curjos), nephews Theodore (Ted), Steven, and James Kaganac, nieces Mary Ann Macumber, Viorica Violet Wysocki and parents Todor and Simeona Csernyant.

The family expresses their gratitude to the caregivers of West Michigan Hospice for their compassionate care.

Visitation is scheduled for Sunday from 2:30-8pm, with a Saracusta at 7pm at Descent of the Holy Ghost Romanian Orthodox Church. The funeral service will be held at the church on Monday at 10am, with in-state visitation starting at 9:30am.
