Father Kenneth O'Malley, C.P., a member of the Passionist Community at 1924 Newburg Road, Louisville, KY died on January 23, 2024 at Nazareth Home-Clifton on Payne street in Louisville at the age of 87. He was born in 1936. He entered the Passionist Seminary after High School and was ordained in Louisville in 1964.
Father Kenneth, C.P. taught and was librarian at the Passionist Preparatory Seminary, Warrenton, MO. In 1969 he joined the library staff of Catholic Theological Union (C.T.U.) in Chicago in its second year and soon became head librarian. He held that position until 1999, earning his doctorate in library science from the University of Illinois in 1977. During these years he frequently assisted in nearby parishes or military bases on weekends. He preached retreats as time permitted. He also served for twelve years as superior of the local Passionist Community at C.T.U.
After his time at C.T.U., Father Kenneth served as local superior of the Passionist Community in Houston, TX. From Texas, in 2011, he moved to Louisville to join the Senior Members of the Passionist Community. In Louisville he faithfully celebrated the Sacrament of Reconciliation with the St. Agnes Community on Saturday afternoons. In October Father Kenneth became a resident of Nazareth Home-Clifton.
Fr. Kenneth, C.P. took his vows and became a Catholic Priest with the Passionist order in Detroit Mi. Fr. Kenneth is survived by 2 siblings, Dennis Anthony (the late Joan) O'Malley, and Patricia Ann (the late Jerry) Boucher, Sister-in-law Louise (nee: Jacoboni) (the late Bill) O'Malley, and Brother-in- law John (the late Mary Theresa) Ivers and many nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents, John Peter and Winifred Lucy (nee: McCarthy) O'Malley; and siblings John (Bonnie) Augustine, Michael Joseph (Stephanie), James Harold (Bro. Kevin, C.P.) and Baby Kenneth. Also nephews, Dennis O'Malley, Tommy O'Malley, and Robert Kubicki.
Visitation will be on Thursday, February 1 at 10:00 AM with the Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00 AM., St. Paul of the Cross Retreat Center, 23333 Schoolcraft Ave. Detroit, MI 48223
Burial will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 25800 W 10 Mile Road, Southfield, MI 48033
