Obituary

Born Genevieve Strug on October 27, 1927 in Hamtramck, Michigan, Jenny is what her family and friends called her.  She had a sweet, gentle, kind, peaceful spirit.  Jenny was a peacemaker among her family and friends.  She had a positive outlook on life and would often quote the song,

"Don't worry, be happy!"

Polish was her first language, as both of her parents were immigrants from Poland, and Hamtramck was a Polish community. She first learned English when she started kindergarten.

Jenny was smart, energetic, and athletic.  She was a very good student and played on her high school tennis team.  After high school, she worked as a secretary.  She had very good typing and stenographic skills. At one of her jobs, she took dictation for labor union negotiations.

Jenny met Cass Fituch at Dom Polski, a Polish dance hall.  Cass was a Polish refugee who had lived through World War II.  Jenny was happy that he could speak Polish and talk to her mother. Jenny helped Cass to learn English. Cass and Jenny married on November 24, 1951 at St. Florian Catholic Church in Hamtramck.  They were married for 65 ½ years, until Cass passed away in August 2017.

Jenny and Cass had 4 daughters—Catherine, Nina, Julia, and Camellia.  They moved to Garden City in the early 1960's, where they raised their daughters and belonged to St. Dunstan Catholic Church until it closed. While raising their daughters, Jenny worked part-time as a secretary at St. Dunstan Catholic School and then for the parish office.   After St. Dunstan closed, they belonged to St. Thomas the Apostle Church.

Jenny and Cass both had strong faith in God and passed their faith on to their daughters.  They also emphasized the importance of education to their daughters, and they were very proud that each of their daughters graduated from college.  Jenny was a very loving and dedicated wife and mother.  She helped her daughters with their school assignments and encouraged them to pursue their dreams.

Although she was a very busy wife and mom, when Jenny had time, she loved reading as well as playing tennis,  badminton, cards (especially pinochle), and bowling.  She belonged to St. Dunstan's bowling league for many years. She loved bowling so much that every Mother's Day and birthday, she wanted to go bowling with her family. Ice cream, cake, chocolate, peanut butter, and Polish food were some of Jenny's favorite things.  She also loved  watching musicals and music/dance shows (especially Polish dancing).

Jenny was delighted to become grandmother to seven grandchildren---Karl, Rebecca, Eric, Hollyann, Remington, Ryan, and Reese.  They called her Busia, which is Polish for grandmother.

For the last 15 years of her life, Jenny suffered from dementia.   However, she remained as sweet as she always was throughout her whole life. Her beautiful smile blessed her family and friends as well as her roommates and the staff that took good care of her at MediLodge of Plymouth, where she spent the last 4 ½ years of her life.

Jenny passed away on April 14, 2025 at age 97. We hope and pray that she is happy and at peace in heaven, spending time with Cass and all of her family and friends that went before her, enjoying all the ice cream her heart desires!
