Atty George N. Subu, Attorney-at-law, son of George Subu and Simioana Tamayo (both deceased), of Lecanto, FL, formerly of Troy, MI, fell asleep in the Lord on Saturday, February 28 at Citrus Memorial Hospital in Inverness, FL.
George is survived by wife Marcia (Town) Subu, and son, the Rev. Fr. David G. Subu and wife Psa.Stephanie Subu of Falls Church, VA, and three grandchildren, Stephen, Grace, and Juliana; brother, Julian I. Subu of Lecanto, FL; sister, Flora and husband Nicholas E. Cocora of Dearborn Heights, MI; and cousins George Subu of Northville, MI; John Subu of Crystal River, FL, and Vidu Subu of Henderson, NV; and uncle to many. He is preceded in death by sister Maria Lapadat of Wallacetown, ON, and cousin Ionel Subu of Hot Springs, AR.
He was born in Detroit, MI Jan. 28, 1939, and graduated from Fordson High School in Dearborn. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1958-1963, an expert rifleman, stationed for 21/2 years in Bogota, Colombia,as an embassy Marine Security Guard, where he met his wife, Marcia, whom he married in 1964. Returning to Michigan, he attended Wayne State Law School, graduating with a J.D. in 1971. Practicing law in Michigan and Florida for 30 years before retiring to Florida in 2002, he primarily served the Romanian American community in the Detroit Metropolitan area. He was a life-long sportsman, deer hunter, and lover of the Upper Peninsula. An Orthodox Christian, he was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church in Dearborn Heights, MI.
He leaves behind many friends, family members, and acquaintances with whom he affectionately kept in touch. May God rest him, forgive him, have mercy on him, and make his memory to be eternal!
Visitation Thursday 2-8pm with a 7pm Saracusta at the John N. Santeiu & Son Funeral Home, 1139 N. Inkster Rd., Garden City (Between Ford Rd. & Cherry Hill). In state Friday 9:30am followed by the 10am Funeral Service at Sts Pete & Paul Romanian Orthodox Church, 750 N. Beech Daly (between Ford Rd and Cherry Hill).
