Obituary

Age 65

Beloved wife of Vince for 38 Years. Loving mom of Rachel (Nick) Welter, Mary (Greg) Economou, Anna (Scott) Tweedy, and Leah (Dan) Walinsky. Adored Nana of Gemma, Maria, Juliana, Alexandria, Elena, Elliot, and Caden. Cherished daughter of Mary and the late George Farrugia. Dearest sister of Antoinette (Jim) Guerreso, Paul (Casey) Farrugia, and the late Mary Patterson. Sister-in-law of Mike Patterson. She was very dearly loved and will be deeply missed by many nieces, nephews, family members, friends, and her beloved students from Crestwood School District.

Born in Detroit on October 10, 1957, Georgina was a beloved and devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, and nana.  Proud of her Maltese heritage, Georgina's parents immigrated from Malta to Detroit in 1955.

Georgina was a devout Roman Catholic and active member of the Divine Child parish.  She regularly attended daily mass, enjoyed reading the Word Among Us, and was an avid reader of faith books and periodicals. Georgina's faith was infectious to those around her and she would not hesitate to have conversation about the importance of God in her life.

Georgina began her career as a speech therapist before becoming an early childhood teacher.  Georgina worked in the Crestwood School District for 28 years, with most of her time spent at Hillcrest and Kinloch Elementary School where she served as a First Grade teacher.  Georgina made an impact on hundreds of children, remembering children she taught years earlier.

Georgina cherished her family. The second of four children, Georgina supported her brother, Paul, and sisters, Antoinette and Mary, through good times and bad.  Georgina loved family traditions that included large family gatherings.  Throughout her life, Georgina enjoyed decorating for the holidays, big and small.  Georgina was also close with her many nieces and nephews.

As a wife, mother, and mother-in-law (jokingly referring to herself as a mother-in-love), Georgina formed a family with undeniable bonds.  The love between Georgina and her husband, Vincent, could be felt by all those around them.  Georgina made sure her daughters, Rachel, Mary, Anna, and Leah, were raised with a deep faith, love of family, and passion for life.  She held regular family dinners and never hesitated to include family and friends.

Undoubtedly, Georgina's most cherished role was that as a nana to her seven grandchildren, Gemma, Maria, Juliana, Alexandria, Caden, Elliot, and Elena.  Georgina cared deeply about her grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them playing, shopping for new outfits, and cooking pumpkin muffins.  Georgina also enjoyed teaching as a grandmother and instilled a love of reading with her grandchildren.

Georgina was a life-long Tigers and Red Wings fan. In the summer, she could regularly be found reading outside or enjoying the pool with family and friends. Georgina also enjoyed finding antique furniture, reading, and staying in touch with many close friends.   Regardless of where Georgina was, she would find the closest broom to keep things tidy. Georgina also treasured the many dogs in her life.

Despite her dislike for spicy food, Georgina would travel anywhere in the world to spend time with her family.  She was not afraid of new adventures ranging from cliff diving in Mexico to swimming with crocodiles in Costa Rica if it meant spending time with those she loved.

Those that were blessed to know Georgina will miss her wholehearted laugh, her unwavering faith, and most of all, her endless love toward everyone she met.
