IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gerard Francis
Sarb
October 16, 1923 – May 12, 2013
GERARD FRANCIS SARB, born in Detroit on October 16, 1923, died at home on May 12, 2013. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Edmund and James, his sisters, Virginia and Rosemary, his sons Donald and John, and his granddaughters Anna and Colleen. Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Patricia; his children Gerard Jr. (Debra), Michael, Thomas (Ruth Ann), Patrick (Lynda), Kevin (Eileen), Kathryn Elkins (Walter), Timothy (Mary), Mary Patricia Marquardt, and Anne; daughters-in-law Lynda and Barbara; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jerry was that most valuable thing: a good man. For his children and grandchildren he was a role model for honesty, kindness, and ethical behavior. His love for his family was deep and strong, and he approached everyone he met with great good will and friendly curiosity. He was a man of abiding faith, a member of Sacred Heart parish for more than 60 years, active on the Parish Council and in the school Dads' Club, and a longtime usher. Jerry's studies at the University of Notre Dame were interrupted by his service in World War II from 1943 to 1946, but after the war he returned to Notre Dame and graduated in 1948. After his family, the University was the great love of his life. (He also made room in his heart for the Tigers.) Jerry was a witty man. Some of his best quips floated over the euchre table, where his wife, children, and grandchildren tried to match wits with him, to no avail. Jerry's endless love for his family is reflected in the lives of his children and grandchildren and is matched only by their love for him. He will be deeply missed. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jerry's memory may be made to Camp Sancta Maria or Hospice of Michigan. Funeral Services Friday 9:45 a.m. at Hackett-Metcalf Funeral Home, 2640 Monroe Blvd. (near W.
