Grellanda Halliday (nee Eannaccone), peacefully March 19.
She had just celebrated her 97th birthday at the end of February.
Beloved wife of the late August Halliday and cherished mother of Jean and Kenneth, grandmother of 8, aunt to many nieces and nephews. Daughter of Felice and Maria Eannacone and one of 11 children- 10 sisters and one brother. Grellanda, which means "garland of flowers" in Italian, is survived by two her sisters- Belline ssariello, 100, and Elena Slezak, 91.
She was born on Feb. 29, 1916 in Westbury, NY, where she lived most of her life. She was the only one of her siblings to attend college. After graduating from Temple University's School of Pharmacy, she worked at St. Vincent's Hospital in NYC. During her 42 years there, she was promoted to assistant director, then director, which she held for a decade before retiring in 1982. Dedicated parishioner of St. Brigid's Church, donating countless hours of her time to service as president of the Rosary Society, choir, Eucharistic Minister and altar service. After retirement, she volunteered weekly at the church's Attic (thrift) Shop, where she worked until she was 92. In 1996 she received a plaque commemorating 30 years of devoted service to St. Brigid's Rosary and Altar societies.
She was also a longtime member of the Dell'Assunta Society in Westbury, founded by Italian immigrants to preserve both their Italian heritage and Catholic traditions.
When she was a girl growing up in Westbury, she often helped her father clean up after he trimmed the trees and bushes around the Church and convent on Post Ave. And when it was time for a new convent, she and her sister Annabel; went house to house taking pledges.

She sang in the church choir, both as a child and adult. Grellanda served as president of the St. Brigid Rosary Society for 10 years. After retirement, she was a Eucharistic Minister to the home bound, washed purificators for 15 years, and volunteered at the church's Attic Shop in Westbury until she was 92. In 1996, she received a plaque commemorating 30 years of service to the St. Brigid's Rosary Society and Altar Society.
Visitation will be Saturday and Sunday 2-4pm & 7-9pm at the Donahue Funeral Home on Post Ave., in Westbury, NY. Funeral services are Monday 10am At St. Brigid's Catholic Church.
