Gus Balluff, 87, passed November 8, 2013, surrounded by his large and loving family. Gus was a devoted husband, father of eight, grandfather of twelve, and great grandfather of one.
He was graduate of the class of 1946 from Cooley High School in Detroit, MI.
He was an active lifetime member of the American Legion and also a member of the VFW and served as the Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed participating at many charitable events, and had a passion and love for sports.
Gus was a very social and friendly person and never met a stranger he didn't like. He and Harriet, his wife of ten years, enjoyed traveling on cruises, and to visit out of state family members. They danced and socialized at American Legion functions, making many lifelong friends.
He was predeceased by Catherine Frances, the mother of Mary-Kay, Audrey, Lori, Bruce, and David. As a loving and caring father, Gus had room in his heart to expand his family and adopt three sisters Cecelia, Emily, and Amy from Korea.
At the age of 18, Gus proudly served in the United States Navy in WWII. He served in the Pacific on a LSM ship around the Philippines Islands and was stationed in Japan at the end of the war. As a proud Veteran Gus would be pleased to know his life would be celebrated on Veteran's Day, Monday November 11, 2013.
Services will be held at Santeiu Funeral Home-1139 Inkster Road-Garden City, MI 48135.
