Obituary

Age 94

Beloved wife of the late Bob Drott for 63 years. Dear sister of Linda Falcon and the late Carol Coggins, and late John Harris. Loving Mom of Terri (Dennis) Golla. Loving Grandma "Nana" to Derrick (Emily) Golla and Great Grandma "Nana" to Sophie and Hannah. She was dearly loved and will be missed by all that knew her. Per Irene’s request, cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be held in April.

Irene lived her life with kindness, always went with the flow and was willing to help anyone that needed it. She was also adventurous and loved the outdoors and travelling. She and her family had gone to all 50 states, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean. Irene was also a wonderful cook. Her chocolate chip cookies were the best and were always requested at all the potlucks.

Irene was born on June 13, 1931 and lived in Detroit. She graduated from Central High School in 1949. She met Bob Drott and they were married on September 30, 1950. They bought a small house in Detroit and 5 years later, Terri was born. They later moved to Garden City where Irene resided for 59 years. Irene worked for Kelly Services, first as a Kelly Girl and later as a key punch operator at the Kelly Services Headquarters in Troy. She retired from Kelly in the 1990’s.

Irene always enjoyed visiting with family and friends. When Irene was living alone, we all decided that she should live closer to Terri, so she moved to Farmington Hills. She lived in Independent Living for 5 years at Carrington Place and Assisted living at Halsted Place for a year and a half. Irene made many new friends at each place. Everyone that met her said she was the sweetest person. She was also very independent, known by some of her caregivers as the most independent person in the facility. Irene loved the sunshine and could always be spotted sitting near the window where the sun could shine in on her.

Memorial visitation will take place on Saturday April 11, 2026 from 9:30 am until time of the memorial service at 11:30 am at the John N. Santeiu & Son Funeral Home, 1139 Inkster Rd., Garden City (between Ford and Cherry Hill).

Memorial contributions may be made to Residential Hospice or Michigan Humane Society.
