Irene Silaghi Romcea Born in Scranton, PA on July 9, 1913 to Gabel and Helen Szabo, she had resided at the Henry Ford Village Retirement Community in Dearborn, Michigan since December of 1993. Suffering from congestive heart failure, the good and merciful Lord called her home in heaven on march 25, 2015. Irene was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Michael Silaghi and Charles Romcea, sister Vera Bouford, brothers Gabel and Joseph Sabo and is survived by her son Elmer Silaghi of Green Valley, AS, daughter Helen (Edgar) Williams of Crystal River, FL, three grandchildren, six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In her youth she was a flapper, winning two Charleston Dance contests and a Masquerade Ball Contest where she met and in 1930 married Michael Silaghi at St. John the Baptist Romanian Byzantine Catholic Church in Detroit.
She was an active president of the Madonna Mothers Club PTA of Detroit. In 1949 Michael and Irene became members of the St. Mary's Romanian Byzantine Catholic Church in Dearborn. In 1964, five years after the passing of Michael, she married a long time family acquaintance Charles, an active member of St. Mary's. From 1949 until 1989, Irene served as chairwoman to many Romanian societies. A Mass Celebrating the life of Irene will be held at St. Mary's on Monday, March 30th at 10am with the burial following at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St. Mary's Romanian Byzantine Catholic church at 823 Military St. in Dearborn.
