Irene Wanda Zajac, age 91, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on November 1, 2017.Wanda, as she was lovingly called by all who knew her, was born in Detroit, MI on March 14, 1926.The daughter of polish immigrants, Andrew and Elizabeth Wilk and one of 5 children, she attended Our Lady Queen of Apostles in Hamtramck.In 1946, she met the love of her life, Walter Zajac.They married in 1947 and eventually settled in Dearborn where they raised their 3 boys.For more than 50 years they shared their life together until Walt's passing in 1999.As founding members of St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, she was active in the church, the Rosary Altar Society and a longtime member of the Senior's Group.In 2014, she made the difficult decision to sell the house and move to Maple Heights Senior Community in Allen Park.She joined old friends and made many new ones.She was loved by many.She is survived by her three sons Ken (Sandi) Zajac, Jim (Stephanie) Zajac, and Kevin (Laura) Zajac.She was a proud, loving grandmother to Daniel, Michael, Hannah and Olivia and fulfilled the role of both aunt and mother to Diann (Bill) Nevers, Bob (Nancy) Wilk, Don (Dawn) Belzyt, Tom (Teri) Wilk, Karen Barone and Diana Campbell as well as many great nieces and nephews. She is survived by her sister Helen Wilk and predeceased by her husband Walter, Her parents Andrew & Elizabeth and siblings Sophie, Henry, and Stanley.Visitation will be Sunday, November 5, 2017 at Hackett-Metcalf Funeral Home from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 3:00 p.m. Instate 9:30 a.m. Monday, November 6, 2017 at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, 4855 Parker Street, Dearborn Heights, Michigan 48125 until the time of Mass at 10:00 a.m. Interment at St. Hedwig Cemetery in Dearborn Heights, Michigan. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Albert the Great Catholic Church.
