IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James
Metevier
December 26, 1929 – March 19, 2018
James ("Jim") Francis Metevier grew up in Detroit, Michigan, the eldest child of parents Lucille (Gahan) Metevier and Francis J. Metevier. James was a veteran of the Korean War and served in Korea from 1951-1952. He married Marguerite ("Margie") W. Culmone, and they raised their four children: Kathleen (Paul Rizza), Michael, Thomas (Carol Portell) and Karen (Daniel Hallanger), in Plymouth, Michigan. James worked in the Program Timing and Control Division of Ford Motor Company for over 40 years. His beloved wife preceded him in death in June 2001, and he lived at Fox Run in Novi from 2011 until his death.
James was also preceded in death by his parents and by his brothers Michael and Thomas. Surviving siblings are John (Ruth) Metevier, Mary (the late Roland) Antil, and Anne (Steve) Hunnicutt. James is also survived by nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and his grandchildren Melissa, Briana and Carley Metevier, and Lindsay, Daniel and Samuel Hallanger. James attended Mass when he was able at his hometown church, Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish in Plymouth, Michigan.
In his youth, James enjoyed swimming, shooting pool and softball; later, he played on a Ford Motor Company softball team. He loved reading, computer games and backgammon with his grandkids. He also enjoyed long car rides and spending time outdoors. He relished a good plate of spaghetti and meatballs, a Tiger game, and was also a huge Red Wings fan, but he was never happier than when he was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by his entire family. Jim had a simple philosophy, which he shared with his children: "Life is hard, always do the best you can, keep it simple, love each other, help each other, and help others." The family is especially grateful to his aides and nurses at Rose Court in Fox Run Village.
A Catholic Mass will be held for James at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 2, at 10 a.m., at Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish in Plymouth, Michigan.
Donations may be made to the Capuchins Mission in Detroit.
