Age 81
Janet was born and grew up in Detroit as the second daughter of Russell and Clara Short. She attended St. Luke's School and graduated from MacKenzie High School in 1953. During the summers she could be found at her Grandparent's cottage in Walled Lake enjoying the amusement park, fishing, swimming and developing a lifelong love of water.
Most of her working years were spent at General Motors and she retired there in 1985. While working at GM she enjoyed the Girls Club and developed lasting friendships with many of her co-workers and the people she met through them and the club. She shared with them a passion for travel spending time exploring and cruising in both the United States and Europe. One of her favorite trips was the "Grand Tour" of Europe in 1975 where she spent 20 days visiting sights from Amsterdam to London. She traveled so frequently that she kept a map at home where she pinned every country/city that she visited. It is truly impressive to see the number of trips she experienced throughout her life!
Being an avid bowler and golfer she belonged to many leagues starting with the church league at St. Luke's and continuing on with the groups from GM and others. She also enjoyed snow skiing, water skiing and boating. After her retirement she spent most of her vacation time with her best friend Sandy Smith at their favorite spot - Canadian Lakes. They met a new set of friends there where they were affectionately known in the campground as "the girls". They spent many summers there on the golf course or in the water, tending to their flowers, grilling out and enjoying their favorite cocktail at "happy hour" with their neighbors.
Janet enjoyed spending time with her family and was always there to lend a helping hand. She cared for her parents as they aged and was very close to her only sister Deloris and her family. For years she would take her nieces and nephews on a summer vacation sharing her enjoyment of the water and activities in different areas including Caseville, Silver Lake and Canadian Lakes. She created many wonderful memories for us all to treasure!
Janet's wish was for all to know that she truly enjoyed life and she hopes that you will remember your time with her fondly!
