Jess Shough, longtime teacher and track coach for the Wayne/Westland and Canton school districts, passed away peacefully at his home on May 21, 2026 at the age of 81.

A devoted follower of Christ, Jess lived his life grounded in Scripture and a desire to serve others, especially the students, athletes, and family entrusted to his care. For many years, he poured his energy into the classroom and track field, where he pushed his students and athletes to develop character and perform their best.

Above all, Jess was a family man. He is survived by his wife, Christine, his children , Tracy (David), Matthew, Scott (Amber), Richard (Megan), Daniel (Danielle), and his nine grandchildren, who were his greatest joy and pride.

He is preceded in death by his daughter Amy and his granddaughter Marissa.

His legacy of faith, hard work, and love will continue in the lives of his family, students, athletes, and all who were blessed to know him.

Services will be held at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Westland, Michigan on Saturday, May 30th at 11AM. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 29th at Santeiu and Sons Funeral Home in Garden City, Michigan between 1 and 8PM.

Reflecting Jess’s lifelong commitment to faith and education, in lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to St. Matthew Lutheran Church and School in Westland, Michigan.
