James Rolland Jensen, affectionately known as Jim, age 96, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2026.
A longtime resident of Dearborn, Jim was born on March 9, 1930, in Highland Park, Michigan, the only child of Ernest and Erna Emilie (Schuhardt) Jensen. He grew up in Detroit where he delivered newspapers and cut neighbors’ lawns. His family attended Bethel Evangelical Church on West Grand Boulevard, where he met his beloved wife, Georgine Barton. Jim graduated from Detroit Institute of Technology (D.I.T.) College of Pharmacy in 1952 and married Geordie on August 10, 1957. Together, they shared 60 wonderful years of marriage, building a life defined by their faith, a deep devotion to each other, and seeking to serve their community. Following Geordie’s death in 2018, Jim’s memories of their life together continued to be an important part of his life.
As a pharmacist, Jim served his community with care and professionalism, offering not only medication but also reassurance, knowledge, and a calm presence to those who depended on him. His work reflected a deep sense of responsibility, and he understood that being a pharmacist was more than a profession. It was a calling to help others in times of need. Even after closing his last pharmacy, Hamlin Drugs on Outer Drive, due to illness, he completed continuing education to maintain his pharmacist license. He kept a well-worn copy of “The Pill Book” close at hand to review medications that his physicians prescribed in his later years.
Beyond his career, Jim was a man of many interests and practical talents. He and Geordie were active members of First Presbyterian Church of Dearborn and enjoyed many travel adventures with the Keenagers. As a Christian, Jim lived with an awareness of God’s grace and the hope that comes through faith. His life reflected the quiet witness of a man who believed in doing what was right, serving others faithfully, and treating people with dignity and respect. In a world that often moves too quickly, he stood as a reminder of the strength found in humility, hard work, and compassion. He was not a man who sought attention, but he left behind a legacy that will be remembered with gratitude.
Jim enjoyed cars and took pleasure in landscaping, finding satisfaction in creating and maintaining spaces that were both orderly and beautiful. He also devoted himself to the care of loved ones, and that devotion stood as one of the defining marks of his life.
Jim is survived by his daughter, Emilie (Jim) Van Bochove, who carries forward his legacy of faith, kindness, and steadfast love. The bond he shared with his family was rooted in loyalty and care, and those who knew him understood that he valued family deeply. His presence brought comfort, and his example left a lasting impression.
Those who knew Jim will remember his friendly nature, his practical skill, and his spirited outlook. He had a way of making others feel welcome. Whether through his work, his interests, or his care for family, he lived in a manner that honored both his loved ones and his faith.
Jim Jensen’s life was a well-lived chapter of devotion, service, and grace. He now rests in the peace of the Lord, and his memory will remain a blessing to all who were fortunate enough to know him.
