Dr. John Cunningham left us on September 25, 2021, where he was residing in Foundation Park Nursing Facility in Toledo, Ohio. Dr. John Cunningham was born on April 3, 1923 in Anderson, South Carolina to Walter and Julia Cunningham. He was the youngest of seven siblings. Dr. Cunningham had a truly amazing life and career. In 1942, he became one of the famed Tuskegee Airmen breaking a number of barriers. He was one of the first Black pilots to defend his country. After traveling throughout the world, he went on to receive his medical degree from Howard University. He then left the medical field and went into the Seminary to study Priesthood where he received his Doctorate in Sacred Theology. After so many amazing adventures, Dr. Cunningham retired and joined his family in Michigan. This is where is lived out the reminder of his retirement.
Dr. Cunningham was preceded in his death by a host of nephews and nieces, all of whom loved him dearly. He was a wise, wonderful, and worldly man that was loved by all.
Visitation Tuesday, October 5, 2021, 9am until the 10am Funeral Service at the John N. Santeiu & Son Funeral Home.
Burial with honors, 1:30pm at Great Lakes National Cemetery.
