John Dancu, affectionately known to many as "Johnny Chicago," passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 2, 2025. He was a fun-loving, generous man who brought joy to every gathering and was truly the life of the party.

Born in Romania in 1927, he came to America at the age of 20 in 1947. He left behind his medical school studies to work tirelessly—holding jobs on the GM and Packard assembly lines—to bring his mother and brother to join him in Dearborn, Michigan. He eventually went on to become an Automotive Design Engineer and worked on seating design at AMC (American Motors), Chrysler and Magna International later in his career. His work ethic and resourcefulness shaped his life and left a lasting impression on those around him.

John was known for his love of golf, boating, and sharing good times with friends. He built his home between a golf course and a lake, the perfect backdrop for the laughter and camaraderie he cherished. He enjoyed his V.O. whiskey, good company, and the simple joy of making others happy.

Beyond his social spirit, he was also deeply spiritual. A devoted member of the Romanian Orthodox Church, he served as a Deacon and led the youth group for many years. He prayed every night, giving thanks for the blessings of family and friendship.

John believed in living life to the fullest while also striving to bring happiness to those around him. His legacy is one of hard work, faith, generosity, and laughter.

John's spirit lives on in the many stories, smiles, and memories he leaves behind.

Beloved husband of the late Barbara. Dear father of David (Pamela), Debra (Dave) Hoogendoorn, and Julie (Mark) Carlson. Loving grandfather of John Dancu, Josh Hoogendoorn, Garrett (Sonny) Hoogendoorn, Zach Carlson, and Whitney Carlson.

Visitation Monday, September 8th 3:00 p.mm – 8:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Saracusta at the John N. Santeiu & Son Funeral Home. In state Tuesday, September 9th, 9:30 a.m. until the 10:00 a.m. Funeral Service at Sts. Peter & Paul Romanian Orthodox Church, 750 N Beech Daly Rd, Dearborn Heights, MI 48127.
