IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John
Jones
June 20, 1947 – December 8, 2020
John Thomas Jones, JJ to his friends, died December 2020, surrounded by and wrapped in the love of his family. John was born June 20, 1947 in Detroit Michigan. He was the fifth of 7 children born to Reba Malinowski , but the only boy. As such he had his hands full growing up in a house full of females though he was well loved (and well tortured) by his sisters.
JJ enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17, his parents cosigning on the application so that he could join. He served in Vietnam on the destroyer the USS Picking. To those of us who have known him for the last several decades or those who have met him well after discharge would be surprised to know he spent most of his time in the brig due to a short temper and fast fists.
After an honorable discharge from the service he moved back to Michigan and got a job at GM. He worked as a jobsetter at GM until his retirement in 2003. It was there that he met his wife, Mary whom he adored.
Anyone who knows JJ appreciates his warm smile, sense of humor and giving nature. He loved to play cards, both euchre and texas holdem, spending many afternoons throughout the week with his friend Floyd at various places playing his favorite games. He also loved playing the lottery, a fact that made things a bit challenging for his son while he was taking care of him since he did not fully disclose this to his wife Mary!
John is survived by his wife, Mary, sister Mary Lou McTaggert (Neil), son John Lambin, daughter Dawn Reasoner (Jeff), stepson Robert Sanders, 9 grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at John Santieu and sons in Garden City on 12/11/2020 from 1pm-7pm. Viewing will also be at 10:30 on Saturday 12/12 with a memorial ceremony at 11:30. He will be interned at Cadillac Memorial West.
