Phillip Gearns
October 16, 1922 – April 16, 2016
John "Jack" Phillip Gearns, greatest dad in the world, age 93, peacefully passed away at home on Saturday, April 16, 2016. John was a loving and extremely caring father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years Dorothy Gearns. He is survived by his children Greg Gearns, Bruce Gearns, Joan Gearns, and Jeffrey Gearns; and two beloved grandsons, Phillip and Garrett Bonofiglo. John was born to Edward and Jessie Gearns on October 16, 1922 in Omer, Michigan. He served in the Navy during WW II. He earned bachelor's degrees from Northwestern and Wayne State University, a master's degree from University of Michigan and did additional graduate work at Wayne State University. He retired from his position as Assistant Dean of Henry Ford Community College in 1986. Before working at HFCC, John worked for Ford Motor Company for 15 years. John was good at just about anything and everything: electrician, plumber, car mechanic, painter, and mathematician. He enjoyed golfing and camping.
Friends and relatives may meet with the family on Thursday, May 5, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. until8:00 p.m. A brief memorial will be held at 7:00 p.m. at Hackett Metcalf Funeral Home.
