John Leonard Slowiak, age 59 of Garden City, passed away in his home surrounded by family on August 18, 2016. He was born in Detroit on January 28, 1957; The son of Leonard and Julie Slowiak.
John was a longtime and dedicated Installer for Coca-Cola in Detroit. He was extremely hardworking and fastidious in execution. Among many things, he enjoyed fishing, traveling, gambling, and getting away on his motorcycle. Most of all, he cherished spending time with his kids. John's personality could fill a room, but beneath his boisterous and gruff exterior was a heart of gold. He was dependable and after a bit of grumbling, always willing to help those in need. He loved his family intensely and will be remembered for his passion for life.
Beloved husband of Marlene for 28 years. Loving father of Samantha (Anthony) Thomas, John B. Slowiak and the late Bronson Slowiak. Caring step-father of Jeff (Tracie) Wright and Kathy (Steve) Steinetz. Step-grandfather of Megan Bryan. Brother of Patty Koontz and Monica (Jim) Beam. Uncle of Cassie. Son-in-law of Dorothy and the late Jim Allen. Brother-in-law of Leanne (Bill) Cowan.
John's family will receive friends for a memorial gathering on Friday, August 26th from 4:00PM until time of service 7:00PM at John N Santeiu and Son Funeral Home, 1139 Inkster Road, Garden City.
Memorial contributions to the ASPCA would be appreciated by the family.
