Age 98
Beloved husband of the late Dolores. Loving father of Dennis (Anita), and Cheryl. Proud grandpa of Matthew (Haley), and Brandon. Brother of Emily Newcomber, Cecilia Dib, and the late Jean Terpening, Dan, Frank, Dorothy Shefke, Theresa Shefke, and Mary Abbatoy. He was loved and will be deeply missed by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
John was a WWII Navy Veteran. He proudly served in the South Pacific on the USS West Virginia, from March of 1944 to May of 1946. He was part of the last and largest battleship vs battleship fight in history. More about the ship can be found at: usswestvirginia.org. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion Post 173 and PLAV Post 16.
John worked for Zimmer Manufacturing, an automotive supplier. He started in 1946 as an assistant foreman and then a machine operator, then setup and repairman.
He enjoyed fishing, coin collecting and woodworking. He made many various projects including; shelves, plant stands and toys. He also loved his many dogs, especially Haddy, who he also called his horse.
Visitation Thursday, December 28th, 5 pm – 8 pm. In state Friday, December 29th, 10:30 am until the 11:30 am Funeral Service at the John N. Santeiu & Son Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Wounded Warrior Project.
