Joseph Peter Ferris's Obituary

It is with great sadness we share the unexpected passing of our beloved father, Joseph P. Ferris, 79, on April 5, 2026. Joseph was a man with many names. To his predeceased parents, Peter and Linda, he was known as ‘Zuzu’, to his predeceased siblings Anthony, Antoinette, George, and surviving brother Charles he was known as ‘Joe’, to his predeceased loving wife and partner, Vicki, of 43 years he was known as ‘Hey Joe’, to his children Tony and Tracy, and Michelle and Rob he was known as Dad, and to his grandchildren Justin and Jenny, Nicholas, Lauren, Devyn, and Ariella he was known as Papa, and to his great-grand babies, Jack and Josie, he was known as Great Papa, and to his friends and neighbors he was known as ‘Joe the Tool Man’.

Before all these names came to be he was born an ocean away in Alexandria, Egypt. Traveling across an ocean to become the man of many names who could build, fix, or imagine just about anything. He spent countless hours in his garage and yard, happiest with tools in his hands and a problem to solve. He had a rare blend of artistic talent and mechanical skill—able to draw and paint beautifully, and just as able to diagnose and repair almost any home or automotive issue. Many knew him for his craftsmanship in kitchen and bath remodeling, where his eye for detail and steady hands turned ordinary spaces into something beautiful. Neighbors, friends, and family appreciated his willingness to help with projects or everyday tasks. If something needed fixing, Joe was often the first person they thought to call, and he never hesitated to lend a hand or share his ‘Old Country’ words of wisdom.

Joe was so many things to so many people, his only goal in life was that of provider and protector. His life was simple in the best way—rooted in helping others, hard work, family, and the satisfaction of a job done right. His presence will be missed, but his influence will be felt in every project he inspired, every skill he passed down, and every memory shared. The man of many names is leaving behind a family who loved him deeply and a lifetime of work, creativity, and quiet generosity. All the wonderful names he held will be etched in our hearts forever.

A Celebration of Life is being planned this summer.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Council on Aging, Gladwin County.
