Joseph James Olmsted, 89, of Dearborn Heights, Michigan, passed away suddenly on December 24, 2025.
Born in Hamtramck, Michigan, on February 7, 1936, Joseph was a hardworking man known for his quick wit, great sense of humor, and friendly nature - he truly never met a stranger. He joined the U.S. Navy in October 1954 and was honorably discharged in December 1956. He worked at Ford Motor Company as a painter until retirement. Joseph met the love of his life, Dorothy, at 15 years old in the back of the bus, and they were married on May 23, 1959. Joseph loved working on cars, especially the antique Model A he purchased as a young man. He was a talented painter and craftsman, always ready to assist anyone who needed a hand. He also enjoyed golf, and was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather who loved spending time with family. An animal lover, he had many dogs, including Casey, his best friend.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of 66 years. He is also survived by his children Kirk Olmsted (Beth) and Karen Levitt (Todd Shattuck). He was an amazing Papa to his grandchildren, Elizabeth, Meghan, and Corbin, who brought him immense pride and joy.
Joseph will be remembered for his kindness, giving nature, and love for his family. His laughter and wisdom were gifts to everyone who knew him. He will be dearly missed.
Memorial Visitation Saturday 1 pm - until 4 pm Military Honors at the John N. Santeiu & Son Funeral Home.
