Age 73
Beloved husband of Kathleen (nee: Rychlinski) and the late Susan (nee: Edgar). Dear father of Cheryl (Mathew) Mattern. Loving grandfather of Ashley and Scott Mattern. Dearest son of the late Joseph and Dorothy. Brother of the late Kenneth. Nephew of the late Clara. He leaves behind his mother-in-law Lillian Rychlinski, his brother-in-law Jeff and his sisters-in-law Kate and Betty and several nieces and nephews.
Joe retired as Captain of the Dearborn Fire Department in 1998. During that time he served on the Firefighters' Training Council. He loved to travel, fish, hunt and pontoon on Houghton Lake.
Visitation Wednesday 2-8pm with a 7pm Rosary at the John N. Santeiu & Son Funeral Home, 1139 Inkster Rd., Garden City. (Between Ford Rd. and Cherry Hill.) In State Thursday 10:30 am followed by the 11am Funeral Mass at St. Sebastian, 20700 Colgate, Dearborn Heights (South of Outer Drive, West of Pelham).
Family suggests memorials to the Dearborn Firefighters Burn Drive.
