Obituary

On Wednesday, June 8, 2022, Judith "Judy" Ann Bedard, of Livonia MI, adored mother and friend to all, passed away at the age 83.

She is survived by her darling daughters Brigette (Rick) Murphy-Barbee, Deidre (Doug) Smith, Nicole Bedard (deceased), Aimée Bedard, and Danielle (Bob) Mallon. And also by her beloved grandchildren Stuart (Rebecca) Smith, Caitlin Murphy, Patrick (Riley) Smith, Michaela (deceased) Murphy, Madeline and Emma Smith, as well as her sweet great grandson SJ Smith. Judy will also be missed by numerous nieces and nephews and dear friends. Judy was preceded in death by her parents Philip and Eleanor (Nadeau) Weipert, her siblingsPhyllis Zink, Marge Kennedy, Mary Ziobron, Joan Mangold, Arthur Weipert, Jerry Weipert, Donna Martin, her cherished companion Jerry Killian, and her former husband Ernest Bedard.

Judy was born on October 28, 1938 in Detroit, MI and grew up on the west side in St Brigid's Parish where she attended grade school. Judy liked to be in the middle of things and at Immaculata HS, she joined a social club. She and her "Gamma girls" spent many weekends away together, and continued to meet for meals, remaining lifelong friends. Judy was a homemaker for many years before becoming a sales associate at Jacobson's where her gift of gab enabled her to be an excellent salesperson. Judy was a lifelong Catholic and had deep faith in God, giving her the strength and the guidance to stand up for many social causes and even nuclear disarmament. She was later called to be a Director of Religious Education, a role she excelled in at many Detroit Diocesen parishes.

Judy had many gifts. She loved to garden, to decorate her home and to entertain and welcome everyone into the space she had created. She loved to craft, sew and catch up with friends on the phone, the long cord stretching around the kitchen. She loved a good cup of coffee and always had the tea kettle ready. Later in life, she enjoyed traveling with Jerry and they visited Hawaii and many new places together. Judy was strong and independent. She stood up for what was right and taught her children and grandchildren to do the same. She supported all of us, always putting her children first, never hesitating to be there in person, send cards and letters, or call when we needed her. There was no limit to her generosity. She would give a stranger the shirt off her back. Judy appreciated and supported people for who they were, which was one of her greatest gifts of all.

We thank everyone who was a part of Judy's life, supporting and caring for her throughout her life. Thank you to Aspen Assisted Living and Hospice, The Medical team, for the care you provided during Judy's last days. She truly appreciated and loved her friends and family.
