Kenneth Gerard Groesbeck (born Grzebik) and better known to family and friends as Kenny Groesbeck. Born March 20, 1953 in Dearborn, Michigan. He grew up on Dresden on the east side of Detroit and attended Our Lady of Good Counsel Grade School. His parents encouraged him musically and he learned the piano and organ, attending the former Palestrina Music Academy in Highland Park, Michigan. By the time he was 14 years old he was playing the organ at numerous parishes in the Archdiocese of Detroit. He attended Notre Dame High School, Cass Tech High School, and graduated from Grosse Pointe North High School in 1971. He was in the Music Education Program at Wayne State University where, he said, he had the same music theory books that he had at Palestrina. He took a summer job at Ford Motor Company in May 1972 and never left until his retirement in 2005. He continued his music ministry throughout the years, lending his services as a substitute, as well as the primary organist and director.
First son, Kyle was born in 1980, and second son Tommy, was born in 1984. In 1985, Ken was very proud to sing the National Anthem at Tiger Stadium with his family there. In 1987, he was part of the Papal Choir for St. Pope John Paul II when he visited Detroit, and Tommy would tell people his mom and dad were singing for his buddy the Pope. He loved being part of his son's athletics, even coaching Pee Wee basketball, and baseball at St. Mel's School. In 2002 he received his Associates Degree after discovering he only needed one English Literature class in order to graduate. In his spare time, he enjoyed doing small engine repair, and plowing snow for his neighbors in the winter. Above all, his faith came first and he loved the music that made the experience memorable.
Survived by his children, Thomas (Amy) and Kyle (Mandy) and their mother Ruth. Grandfather of Jacek and Connor. Loving brother of Kim (Bora) Tekkanat, Karla (Paula Weber) Groesbeck, Mary (Frank) Reinhardt and the late Kris Susan Grzebik.
