Obituary

Age 56

Family and friends lost a mighty ally with the sudden and unexpected death of Ken Svihra, on January 2, 2018.  Ken passed away peacefully, in his sleep, at home.

Kenny was born in Rochester, Pennsylvania, across the Ohio River from his family's home in Monaca, PA, surrounded by much of the extended family and relatives he always held so dear.  Despite moving away after just one year, Ken carried from there the strong family values, work ethic, and bull-headedness so common to that region.  Frequent visits back to Monaca were always a special time for Ken.

Ken was the 4th of 6 children born to Janet and Paul Svihra.  Siblings are Marty, Mike (Pat), Al, Chris (Lauren), and Dian, his favorite sister.  Every niece and nephew was special to Ken, and treated as if they were his very own child.  His oversight and devotion to them, and his generosity, began at birth and continued to his final day.

Ken's family extended beyond mere genetics to include many friends all across the country, with the greatest number localized in his home community of Monroe, MI.  Ken was a modest man, far from fancy.  Spare-time interests included the weekly pool league, visiting with friends, and the occasional vacation to someplace warm and with a beach.  No matter where, it was difficult to be near Ken without becoming a friend.  The number of people helped by Ken, in every way imaginable, is known only to God, Himself, because it was done under the radar and with utmost respect for the individual.  Despite being fiercely private, Ken's home was always open to everyone, and a stranger never visited there.

An organization that Ken actively supported is Tailgaters Helping Aid Needy Kids' Spirits, Inc (T.H.A.N.K.S., Inc).  This group of volunteers from Monroe and surrounding communities works to assist local children and their families battling life threatening or catastrophic illnesses.  Anyone wishing to make a contribution in Ken's memory is encouraged to consider this wonderful organization.  Details can be found at https://www.thanksinc.com/
